A Surprise Photo for This Week's Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop

Focused on the Magic
I am so excited for this week's theme of the Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop hosted by Focused on the Magic.  We get to share a favorite photo from our blog that is also on Pinterest.  I have started a brand new board on Pinterest called "100 Things to Do in Walt Disney World."  I will be sharing our family's top 100 attractions, shows, resorts, dining experiences and more.  So the photo I am sharing is from Flights of Wonder, one of our favorite shows in Disney's Animal Kingdom.  The best part about this photo is that I had no idea I captured this particular expression!  It has become on of my favorite Disney photos!  This cast member made this particular show absolutely hysterical!  We didn't see him last trip, but hope he is in the show next time we see Flights of Wonder!

Make sure you follow me on Pinterest to keep up with all our our Disney vacation posts, scrapbooking layouts, recipes, Disney parties and more!

We Pursued & Found the Magic This Week with Disney Scrapbook Layouts, Disney Trivia, a Disney Countdown Craft and More!

We are just four weeks away from our next Walt Disney World vacation, and I can't wait!  We are in full planning mode at this point, though we have all our dining set, resort reservation ready and flights.  Over the next week, we will be sharing how we plan and prepare for our trip.  In the meantime, feel free to browse through the articles on our "Planning for a Disney Vacation" tab.  I've shared lots of lessons I have learned traveling to Walt Disney World with three little ones from how we get ready before leaving home to making the most of our vacation while in Disney.  How many days until your next Disney vacation?

Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop ~ "H"appy to Arrive in Walt Disney World

Today I am joining in the fun of the Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.  This week's theme is "The Letter H."  Well, the most fitting "H" I could think of is happy.  This photo is one of my favorites from our last trip.  We had just arrived (the happiest day of the trip, right??) after a long day of snowy, stressful travel.  We were relieved to arrive without delays or travel issues, and the kids were more than happy to stretch their legs along the beach at Disney's Polynesian Resort!

How To Create Our Countdown to Disney Chart

Here's Pierre showing off his modelling skills.  And, yes,
that is Ratatouille playing in the background! :-)
Last week, I posted a photo of the chart we created to count down to our next Walt Disney World vacation. I had a tremendous response of people asking me how we made it, so here it!  This was a fun craft I did with the kids for our 2010 trip.  The funniest part is I was ready to upgrade it a bit and change it up, but the kids told me they wanted it exactly the way it is.  So, since the chart really is for them, we are keeping it the same.  I listed below the colors and materials we used, but definitely customize it to your family's favorites!

Materials:
  • White Poster Board
  • Colored Cardstock/Construction Paper: Red, Yellow, Blue, Black (I would highly recommend using cardstock for at least the removable pieces because the cardstock will be sturdier than construction paper.)
  • Cricut machine (this is not a necessity but it is what we used - you can also cut your own Mickey Ears and Hands or print them from your computer and cut them out.  They are also available at some craft stores in the scrapbook supplies section.  Joann's sells Mickey Journaling Cards which would work too.)
  • Cricut Mickey Font Cartridge
  • Velcro Dots: 1/2" (We used white so they would blend in with our white poster board)
  • EK Success Mickey and Friends Stickers (In the scrapbooking section of your local craft store, there are plenty of Disney stickers and embellishments to choose from, including Disney-Pixar characters, Disney Princesses, the Fab 5 and more.)
  • An Adhesive (We used glue dots, glue sticks and double sided tape)

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia ~ The first animal to arrive at Disney's Animal Kingdom is ...

Welcome to another week of Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia hosted by Disney Babies Blog, Heidi's Head, Magical Mouse Schoolhosue and My Dreams of Disney.  Each week I use my Walt Disney World Fun Fasts app to randomly choose a fun piece of Disney trivia.  Today's tidbit comes from Disney's Animal Kingdom.

The first animal to arrive at Disney's Animal Kingdom was Miles the giraffe on June 12, 1996.

I love catching a glimpse of the giraffes while on Kilimanjaro Safaris.  We even had a close encounter one trip, which was truly amazing!  (You can read about it in my "On Safari in Harambe" post).

My MouseScrappers Speed Scrap Marathon Results

I think this is my favorite layout of all the ones
I completed this weekend!
As you know, I posted last week about participating in the MouseScrappers Speed Scrap Marathon.  Over the weekend, there were 16 speed scraps beginning on Friday and ending Sunday night.  My goal had been to complete at least 8 (for the half marathon) due to the fact that I knew Sunday's speed scraps would be out of the question for me.  I tried to cook our football foods, entertain company and scrap all at the same time, but let's just say, my multitasking skills were not up for that challenge.  So in the end, I completed 11 of the 16, more than I thought I would.  Even better, I learned all kinds of new scrapping tricks, I found much inspiration seeing what everyone posted for each challenge and I earned some really great participation prizes. So in the end, I completed the half marathon and I must say, I am pretty happy about that!

So a big thank you to my friend, Mary, at Capturing Magical Memories.  She has been quite the scrapping inspiration and has answered all my questions when I needed her!  Thank you, Mary!!!

To see all my creations, as well as links to the kits I used for my projects and the participation prizes I earned, make sure you check out my Pinterest Board

Did you participate this weekend?  How many speed scraps did you complete?

MouseScrappers Speed Scrap Marathon ~ This weekend!

Guess what I am doing this weekend?  I am joining in the MouseScrappers Speed Scrap Marathon, which hopefully means I will be catching up on my scrapbooks.  This would be my second time participating in one of these, and I can't wait!  For all the details, check out the official Speed Scrap Marathon thread.  I look forward to using many of the new digital kits I have won or purchased recently.

My layout to the right is one of my very first digital scrapbook pages I did as part of the MouseScrappers Minnie Marathon.  My friend, Mary from Capturing Magical Memories, was a big help in getting me to begin digital scrapbooking.  I thought I would never convert, but I did and I love it . . . well, when I find time to be able to work on my scrapbooks!

A Boat Ride Away from the Magic Kingdom ~ The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop

Here we are again at another Disney Wordless Wednesday!  This week's blog hop theme is "Disney Transportation," and I am sharing one of my favorite photos from our first stay at Disney's Polynesian Resort.  This boat was a great way to get to the Magic Kingdom.  Its loop took us from the Polynesian to the Magic Kingdom to the Grand Floridian and back to the Polynesian.  It was a beautiful ride, especially at sunset and the evening hours making our way back to our resort.

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia ~ The Seas with Nemo and Friends

The Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia Blog Hop is here again!  Today, I am sharing a fun fact from my children's favorite Epcot Pavilion - The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

The Seas with Nemo and Friends was previously called The Living Seas and is the world's largest man made ocean environment.

This pavilion is by far my children's favorite spot in Epcot.  I would dare say that I think Hayley could spend the entire day here if I let her! (You can read more about the change over from The Living Seas to The Seas with Nemo and Friends in my article for DIStherapy's 30 Days to 30 Years countdown, where I shared our love of this pavilion and a quick video of the aquarium).  It is amazing what you can see in the aquariums here if you take the time to just observe the animals, something we never truly did until we had kids.

Growing Up Disney Minnie Moms ~ Best Cameras for the Parks

The Growing Up Disney Minnie Moms are back with another installment of their best Disney vacation planning tips for you and your little ones.  Unfortunately, this month I didn't have a chance to participate, but plenty of other Minnie Moms did!

To see which cameras they bring into the parks to capture the best photos of their Disney vacations, make sure you head over to

Run Like the Wind Digital Scrapbook Kit Giveaway

My number one Disney resolution for this year is to run my very first half marathon, which will also be my very first runDisney event . . . the Princess Half Marathon.  The event takes place on February 24th with a run through the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.  I would think that would have to be the best scenery for a run!  I have taken much inspiration from so many people seeing their accomplishments in runDisney events, from people sharing their stories of their first races to those who completed the Goofy Challenge (those who completed the 5k, half marathon and full marathon all during the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend!).

We Pursued & Found the Magic this week with Disney Trivia, 2013 Disney Resolutions and more!

As we have rounded the corner into the new year, our family has a lot to look forward to, including a trip to Walt Disney World in 6 weeks.  I can't believe our trip is almost here!  Time to get packing and organizing!  If you missed any of our posts this week, here they are:

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia is a great way to share some Disney trivia and learn something new each week about Walt Disney, Disney movies, park attractions and more.  I am particularly excited that the hop stays open all week now!  I was able to share two tidbits of information this week - one about my favorite Disney movie and one about my favorite nighttime spectacular in Walt Disney World:

Princess Emily and Grampa ~ The Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop

I love the theme of this week's Disney Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop ~ Disney Time Magic.  If you have been following Pursuing the Magic for a while, you know we are all about Disney magic.  It seems to pop up just about everywhere whether we are at home or in Walt Disney World.  We have been lucky enough to have had many magical moments over the years from Jiminy Cricket shaking my ad's hand (we believe this is the moment my dad turned into a Disney fan) to being chosen to ring the dinner bell at Hoop Dee Doo to Minnie Mouse getting our non-talking little guy to talk (and he hasn't stopped since!).  These are just the tip of the iceberg of Disney magic we have been blessed to experience.  But some of our favorite magical moments tend to just be moments we have spent with each other.

Our 2013 Disney Resolutions

October 2008 ~ Waiting for
Hoop Dee Doo
When it comes to making resolutions, I will admit I really only make one or two and rarely do I take them seriously.  But this year, I have one resolution, of course, completely Disney related, and there is no doubt it will be accomplished by February 24, 2012.  I will be running my very first half marathon in Walt Disney World, actually my very first half marathon ever!  I was quite excited when we began planning our family trip to see that the Princess Half Marathon fell during the week we would be there.  It was the perfect fit!  I took it as a sign that it was time to start running again.

My entire life before kids, I was a runner.  I loved running!  Once I had kids, I found less and less time to get myself out on a run.  I guess having three kids in three years will do that to you.  Well, at least that is what I am telling myself!  Over the last several years, I have made several attempts to get back into running, but I always would put it aside to do something with the kids, whether that was a sports practice, a school event or just family fun here at home.  Either way, I have really missed it.  The Princess Half Marathon has been the best motivation to get back into running. Add to it the number of my Disney blogging friends who will also be there, and I could not turn this opportunity down! (By the way, make sure you check back on Monday because I will have a great giveaway to go along with my Disney resolution.  I'll give you a hint - it is something from Capturing Magical Memories!)

As for family Disney resolutions, we have plenty to look forward to on our next trip.  During the first trip with our three children, they were 3.5, 2 and 10 months.  This year, they are 8, 6.5 and 5.  It is hard to believe they are so grown up.  They even have made their very own Disney resolutions:
Joey, Emily and Hayley ~ October 2011 waiting for
Hoop Dee Doo
  1. Emily is finally tall enough to ride most of the thrill rides, of which she has said she is definitely experiencing Splash Mountain this trip, though I had to break the news to her that it will be closed while we are there.  Hopefully, she will take a chance on some of the other "big kid" rides as she calls them.  She is just excited to get to ride the attractions "like Joey and Hayley," which she has not been a part of the last trip or two.
  2. Hayley has made a Disney resolution to make a card for every character she wants to meet in the parks.  This is a tradition of hers, which gets her a lot of fun interaction with the characters.  In previous years, she handed out simple drawings.  This year, the cards she has created so far have very detailed pictures inside and out, as well as lots of writing.  I'll just say, she is one sweet first grader!  Any character would be lucky to get one of these!  Now to see how many characters she can find in the parks!
  3. Joey has just one goal this trip (fingers crossed it works for him this year!) - he wants to be a part of the Jedi Training Academy.  I know this is difficult to get into, but I promised him we will put in our best effort to get him to participate. Of course, he knows it isn't a guarantee, but I will have to have a back up plan just in case!

Add to these being able to finally see the new Fantasyland, especially Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid, and we have plenty of new things we plan to experience on our next trip to Walt Disney World. I tend to find Disney resolutions MUCH easier to stick to than my regular ones!  How about you?

Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia ~ Tinkerbell's Flight

Tiggerific+Tuesday+Trivia Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia: Abe Lincoln I am always excited to learn something new about Walt Disney, the Disney parks, and any other Disney related topic, which means I am excited to join in another week of Tiggerific Tuesday Trivia.  I randomly chose a Walt Disney World fact using the Walt Disney World Fun Facts App.  I am excited to say this trivia comes from my favorite nighttime show ~ Wishes in the Magic Kingdom.  This fireworks spectacular is a "must do" for our family, whether we watch it from Main Street U.S.A or from the beach of Disney's Polynesian Resort.
