Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party ~ Themed Costumes for the Whole Family

When we made the decision to splurge (yes, this was a Disney splurge for us!) and purchase tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, our next decision was - are we going to dress up?  The kids definitely were going to wear costumes, but my husband and I were not so sure.  Each of the kids had their own ideas of who they wanted to be.  Each of the girls were going to be princesses and Joey wanted to be Captain Rex.  I personally never dressed up for Halloween as an adult.  I am not sure why, but going as a stay at home mom of three seemed to suit me best.  I had no desire to dress up for the Halloween Party.

One night as we were discussing our upcoming plans for our trip, the kids asked us what costumes we were going to buy.  When Pierre and I told them we weren't dressing up, they were crushed ... no really, the room went very quiet, which is not normal for around here.  I asked them why we should dress up.  Hayley's response was, "Because it is fun!"  The three kids then started shouting out ideas of who we could be.  Suddenly, one of them said, "Why don't we all be Toy Story characters or Tangled characters?"  Suddenly, the idea that we would all dress in one theme had some appeal.  We came up with several ideas, and finally we settled on Toy Story.  The kids decided that Pierre would be Buzz, Emily and I would be Jessie, Joey would be Woody and Hayley would be Bo Peep.  I was a bit tentative still about dressing up, but how could I say no to my kids who were SO excited that Pierre and I would have costumes too?

After much searching online, I was able to find just the right costumes for each of us.  I will say when we first arrived at the Magic Kingdom all dressed up, I was very self conscious!  We had people stopping us and saying how great we looked.  A couple of families we crossed paths with throughout the night would yell out, "Look it is the Toy Story Family!"  But the best moment was when we got into line for Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin.  There was a preschooler in line in front of us, who clearly was a Buzz Lightyear fan.  He gave Pierre (dressed as Buzz) a huge smile and wave.  It was really cute.

In the end, I am so happy we all dressed up and were within the same theme.  It made for such a fun night and lots of interactions with other families.  Of course, we did pass a family all dressed as The Incredibles, who looked awesome!  Joey, Hayley and Emily are convinced that we should be the Incredibles next time, though I am not so sure Pierre and I's "figures" would do justice to those costumes!

If you are considering heading to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, I highly recommend dressing up, and even more so, I highly recommend having a family theme.  It made for some fun photos to say the least!

Are you headed to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party this year?
Who will you be dressing as?

I think it's great that you all dressed up - good job being a sport about it. I know I would be VERY self-conscious, but it looks like fun!

Well, you know those costumes are not flattering, especially on a mom of three's body who hasn't lost all her baby weight! LOL! In the end, I am so happy the kids got us to do this. I was really a lot of fun!
