I've been through security with my niece and nephew, and I totally agree - it's an ordeal! Thankfully we never had any of the fears that you had to deal with though! :)
The thing that bugs me about this new security loophole is that it assumes that if someone is going to do something dangerous on a plane, then children are sacred and off-limits. Sadly, from the examples of various evil people in our world, we know that's not the case. Every time the security check lightens, I worry a little more. My parents said they're not checking liquids in Atlanta, Dallas, and Flint anymore. :-/ While I love that it makes flying with young ones easier, it does cause me some concern.
