100 Things to Do in Disney #71 ~ Kali River Rapids

Today I am sharing #71 in our countdown series, 100 Things to Do in Disney ~ Kali River Rapids in Disney's Animal Kingdom, as part of Flashback Fridays hosted by Sarah at Magical Days with the Mouse.  Hayley, Joey and Pierre are looking forward to experiencing this on our next trip.  Hayley is particularly excited because she is finally tall enough to ride!

Though I have never experienced Kali River Rapids, I have some really great memories of it.  Back in 2006, we took Joey, then just 14 months, for his first trip to Walt Disney World.  While we were walking through the Asia part of the park, my dad asked us what the Kali River Rapids attraction was all about.  Pierre explained that it was a rapids ride and that you get wet.  I even added in that you get VERY wet.  My dad had never experienced it and despite our warning, he and Pierre made their way onto the ride.  Well, let's just say, my dad was soaked head to toe!  I laughed so hard because he can be a really serious guy, but he just laughed it off - I was thankful it was a warm day! Here are the before and after pictures:

In 2008, Joey had the chance to experience this attraction for the first time with my dad, Pierre and my brother.  He loved it, though all he ever says when we ask him about it is "I got soaked on that ride!"  And in all honesty, he did! Here he is after his first experience with Kali River Rapids:

I looked forward to seeing how soaked they all get this year!

I've only ridden this once. It was back in 1999, when Ashley was 5. The ride wasn't officially opened yet, but they were doing "sneak peeks" so we decided to give it a whirl. It was February and Ashley got DRENCHED from head to toe. It wasn't all that warm, and I worried she'd get sick - but, thankfully, she's a hearty kid! She braved it again on our trip in 2010 (with a friend). It was May then, though, and made a lot more sense! LOL

Well, who would take the pictures then? LOL! I think I have just gotten in the habit of being the one who stays behind to take pictures and watch the kids who aren't tall enough to ride. Though, last trip it was only in the 50s the day we did the rapids. I was excited no one wanted to go on that day! LOL! Maybe in October, but we'll see! :-)

I love it! That is when it's hot and I don't have white shorts on ;P

Too cute. I especially love the smile on your dads face. For a "serious" guy the fun he is having sure shines through his face. What great memories.

LOL, Deb! Yes, wardrobe also is a factor in the decision to experience this!

My dad and Pierre are close, so I love the photo of them after with Pierre laughing and my dad soaked. It is one of those memories that for whatever reason just stands out. :-)

LOVE the look on his face! It's almost as if he is saying, "Mom, this water tastes funny..."
