Bringing a Little Disney to Hometown Fireworks

Here's Emily "relaxing" in
our pool!
Welcome to those of you stopping by from Magical Mouse Schoolhouse Tiggerific Tuesday Blog Hop!  Hope you'll take some time to check out how my family attempts to bring Disney magic into our home in between trips to Walt Disney World, as well as some of our lessons learned bringing little ones to Disney on vacation.

I thought today I would share a fun story from my youngest daughter, Emily, who is just three and half.  Talk of fireworks around here has gone on since last fourth of July with my kids.  Last year was the first time we took them all to our town's fireworks.  Other than that, the only fireworks displays my children have seen are those in Disney.

Sunday morning as the kids and I were eating breakfast, I asked them if they were getting excited for the fireworks Monday night.  Joey and Hayley were immediately beaming and began talking about what they were going to bring with them and what snacks we should pack (it's a full out outing for us to go down to the fireworks!).  Emily was very quiet and looked sad.  I ask her what was wrong.  She told me that she didn't want to go to the fireworks because she was too scared of Maleficent.

Now if you have seen Disney's Hollywood Studios Fantasmic, you know what she is talking about.  If you haven't seen this show, Maleficent is the evil fairy in Sleeping Beauty who transforms in to a Dragon to fight Prince Philip and keep him from rescuing Princess Aurora.  During the Fantasmic show, Maleficent makes an appearance over the stage area and breathes fire into the water.  Having seen so few fireworks displays, Emily was thinking this was what we were going to see.

After much explaining, Emily then became very excited about going to the fireworks, and I realized almost a year and a half after seeing Fantasmic that she was actually afraid of it!  So last night, we made our way down to Lake Winnipesaukee to see the fireworks and had great family fun!  Hope you all had a safe and happy 4th of July!

That's a great story, I work with children and I discussed Disney movies with a parent once. She told me she always screened the disney movies because the villains are sometimes to scary for het daughter. So I can understand that your daughter found Malificent scary.

The funniest thing about Emily is that she loves every character - villians to secondary to the main characters. She knows the story of Sleeping Beauty story like tha back of her hand because we read the book at least twice a week. But when we were in Disney, she loved Fantasmic and talked about it for weeks and wanted to go back to see it. But I found with all three of my kids, their feelings toward many things fluctuate back and forth between like and dislike. We'll see what she thinks when we return in October!
